Bauman, John George

John George Bauman went to be with his Lord on August 8, 2008. He was born on September 26, 1941, in Erie, the son of the late Elmer E. and Margaret E. Schneider Bauman, Sr. He was a lifetime member of Abiding Hope Lutheran Church and an honorary member of Kearsarge Volunteer Fire Dept.; having served as Lieutenant of Rig #2. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and was an avid Nascar fan. He had been employed at American Hollow Boring, Codan, Perry Shipbuilding and Bush Industries. John is survived by his wife, Mary Jeanne Reese Bauman, one brother, Elmer E. Bauman, Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., four children: Kirsten A. Kunselman of Erie, John E. and Priscilla Bauman of Ledyard, Conn., Carrie L. and Michael Kaziska of Jefferson, Ohio, and Kathy J. and Robert Morschhauser of Little Hope, Pa. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Andrew S. and Gillian R. Kunselman, Elizabeth A. and George F. Bauman, Mariah A. Kaziska, and Logan R. Morschhauser. Considine, Dr. James F.

Dr. James F. Considine, age 74, a resident of Houston, Texas and formerly of Erie passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2008. Funeral arrangements will be announced Tuesday by the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St.

Ellis, Louise B.

Louise B. Ellis, age 95, of Erie, died Sunday, August 10, 2008 at her residence at Dufford Terrace. She was born in Erie on March 9, 1913 daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Benecki. Louise was a homemaker and had previously worked at Kresge's. She was a member of the Salvation Army, the Young At Hearts, the Westminster Garden Club and had enjoyed volunteering at the Hamot Aide Society. She had also been active for 40 years with her Bridge Card Club. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Ellis, Sr., her son, Cecil Ellis, Jr., two sisters, Ida Thomas and Nellie Tecza, and two brothers, Henry and Joseph Benecki. Survivors include two children, Marilyn Dillon and husband Charles of Erie and Rev. James Ellis and wife Peggy of Corning, N.Y., two sisters, Virginia Ropelewski and Eleanor Fratus, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Greggs, Grace B.

Grace B. Shafer Greggs, 92, formerly of Fargo Street, Erie, died on Saturday afternoon August 9, 2008 at the Millard Filmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville, N.Y. following a short illness. A resident of the Erie area most of her life, she had also lived in Florida for a number of years returning to Pennsylvania in 1996. She was born in Johnsonburg, Pa. on February 2, 1916 a daughter of the late Owen and Gertrude Singer Shafer. Grace had worked as a sales clerk in the drapery department of the Boston Store in Erie for a number of years. Previously, she had worked at the Erie Resistor for several years. She was a former member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, the Ma's and Pa's Square Dance Club, and Club 14 at Gusty's Hall in Erie. Survivors include a daughter with whom she lived the past ten years, Nancy Ferrere and her husband Victor of Boyers, Pa.; three sons, Donald L. Greggs of Clarence, N.Y., Richard Greggs and his wife Maria of Dothan, Ala., and Gerald Greggs of Geneva, Ohio; a niece whom she helped raise, Ruth Bertelsen and her husband David of Erie; nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Donald Richard Greggs on December 30, 2001; a son, John O. Greggs in 1967; two brothers, Owen F. Shafer and John Shafer; two sisters, Theda Simmons and Melva Sanden; a grandson, Cary Greggs; her step mother Hattie Shaffer. Friends may call at the Russell C. Lewinthal, Ann Abrams

Ann Abrams Lewinthal age 93, of Erie, died, Sunday August 10, 2008 at St. Vincent Health Center. She was born in Erie on February 22, 1915 a daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie Bloomberg Abrams. She had been employed by Halle Brothers for 15 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Congregation B'rith Sholom, the Jewish Sisterhood and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Julian in 1997, a sister, Frieda Felberbaum and a son-in-law Norman Epstein. Survivors include two daughters; Deena Epstein of West Bloomfield, MI and Roberta DeFrank of Willoughby, Ohio. She is also survived by four grandchildren and four great Grandchildren. Friends are invited to a service at CBS Cemetery Monday, at 2:00 p.m. with David Lester officiating. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West Tenth Street handled the arrangements. Loney, Loretta C. Wuenschel

Loretta C. Wuenschel Loney, age 77, formerly of Stafford Ave., died Saturday, August 9, 2008 at her residence. The Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of the arrangements. A complete obituary will be in Tuesday's paper.

Lucas, Walter Carl

Walter Carl Lucas, 56, 409 E. 11th St., passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008, at Hamot Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Law Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave.

Martinson, Paul W.

Paul W. Martinson, 50, raised in Erie and a Florida resident for many years, died on Sunday morning August 10, 2008 at the Pleasant Ridge Manor West with his loving companion Rose Morris Royer at his side and after a brave three year battle with lung cancer. He was born in Cuba, N.Y. on November 25, 1957 a son of Patricia Warren Martinson of Denver, Colo. and the late Vernon C. Martinson. Paul had been a welder for a number of sign construction companies but his passion was that of a drummer who played in a number of bands in Erie, Florida, and Germany. In addition to his mother and loving companion Rose, survivors include a daughter, Melissa Morris of Erie; two sons, Michael Paul Martinson and Christian Martinson of Erie; two sisters, Vicki Reynolds and her husband Scott of Clymer, N.Y. and Julie Machinski and her husband Darryl of Erie; four brothers, Bruce Martinson and his wife Carol of Erie, Craig Martinson of Buffalo, N.Y., Jon Martinson and his wife Nanci of Cambridge Springs, and Steve Martinson and his wife Sherri of Houston, Texas; 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son Paul "Paulie" Martinson and a brother, Steven John Martinson. Friends will be received at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave., Wednesday 6:00 p.m. until service time there at 8:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Harry Johns. McGranor, Russell E.

Russell E. McGranor, age 78, died Friday, August 8, 2008 at his home in Erie after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in McWilliams, Pa. on December 19, 1929, son of the late John A. and Martha G. Fuller McGranor. He had lived in Erie since 1952. Russell was employed with Copes Vulcan for 30 years before retiring in 1992. He was previously employed with Techno Corp., Bucyrus Erie and Urick Foundry. An avid hunter, fisherman and archer, he was a Deputy for the PA Fish Commission. He served under the Pennsylvania National Guard. The widower of Kathleen (Kate) Noble McGranor, he is survived by four daughters, Linda Kay McGranor, Marsha Lee Horton, Kathleen (Kathy) Palmer and Tammy Marie Chrispen and her husband Donald, all of Erie; one son, Russell E. McGranor, Jr. and his wife Lori of Erie; a foster son, Leonard Deegan of Erie; seven brothers, Paul (Ella) and Franklin (Diane) of Erie, Merle of Ohio, Tom (Denise) of McKean, Harry of Edinboro, Jim of Williamsport, Howard (Gerry) of Brookville; six grandchildren, Sheela "Cheech" Horton, Amy Kernohan (Mike), John Horton, Donald "Tarzan" Chrispen, Mark McGranor and Russell E. McGranor III; step-grandson, Matthew Geer and wife Beth; three great-grandchildren, Christian "Mikey" Horton, Jordan and Austin Kernohan; step-great-granddaughter, Alexis Geer; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Bonnie Jean McGranor, a sister, Betty McGranor and three brothers, Johnny, Robert and Ken McGranor. Mottern, Wayne A.

Wayne A. Mottern, age 81, passed away Wed. Aug. 6, 2008 at the Twinbrook Medical center. He resided in Erie. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced Tuesday. The G.R. Bailey Funeral Home 4396 Iroquois Ave. Lawrence Park is handling arrangements.

Platt, Charles "Buzz"

Charles "Buzz" Platt, 85, of Lincolnville, Pa. passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa. He was born November 1, 1922 in Spartansburg, Pa. the son of the late Elton and Florence (Platt) Bates. He was a self employed timberman who enjoyed working with lumber and being in the woods. He was also a member of the Bloomfield Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents Elton and Florence (Platt) Bates his first wife; Eleanor (Alcorn) Platt in 1975 and his second wife Margaret (Turner) Oaks Platt in March of 2008, also by brothers Harry and Stan. Survivors include a daughter; Jessie Woodworth and her husband Robert of Lincolnville, Pa. a son; Charles Platt and his fiancee' Kim Clark of Carnegie, Pa. a step-daughter; Mary Gillete of Lincolnville, Pa. three step-sons; Frank "Wayne" Oaks and his wife Brenda, Michael Oaks and his wife Betsy all of Union City, Pa. and Gary Oaks and his wife Kim of Lincolnville, Pa. a sister Peggy Weldon of Pittsfield, Pa. a brother; Carl Bates of Sheffield, Pa. grandchildren; Heather, Chuck, Mick, Adeline, and Loretta, and several great grandchildren, and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Schuster, Betty Jean

Betty Jean (Suesser) Schuster, age 83, a resident of Erie passed away Saturday August 9, 2008 at St. Mary's Home, East. She was born April 23, 1925 in Erie the daughter of the late George and Edith McCormick Suesser. Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband Carl L. Schuster who died in 1993; a son Robert C. Schuster; three sisters, Beryl Jardine, Virginia Mrozowski and Catherine Worner, and a brother, George J. Suesser. She is survived by a daughter Linda Franklin and her husband Steve of Erie and two sisters; Lucille Frisbie and Florence Torok, both of Erie. Betty Jean is the grandmother of April Taft, Jennifer Schuster, Rob Schuster, Bryan Franklin and Jason Franklin. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren; Kathy Sinnott, and a good friend, Jerry Travis. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Schwein, Yolanda Bottoni

Yolanda Bottoni Schwein, 76, of Fairview Township, died Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Hamot Medical Center. She was born January 18, 1932, in Erie, daughter of the late Mario and Raffaela D'Agostino Bottoni. She retired from the Janitorial Department of International Paper Company. She enjoyed camping. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Kenneth Schwein, in 1994, two brothers, Mario and Raymond Bottoni, and three sisters, Mamie Tatera, Prina Monticello and Anna DeDenizio. Survivors include four daughters, Rachel Mansfield, Debbie Carter and fiance Scott, Barbie Vargulich and husband David, Lois Schwein, two sons, John Schwein, David Schwein and wife Karen, one brother, Tony Bottoni and wife Kathy, one sister Betty Jean Sparks and husband Chuck and one sister-in-law Dottie Pedersen and husband Rolf all of Erie. Also survived by 11 grandchildren Shelly, Margaret, James, Jr., Nicole, Jennifer, Alicia, Timothy, Steven, Anthony, Erica and Andrew many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Shewan II, Richard William "Dick"

Richard "Dick" W. Shewan II died Thursday, August 7, 2008 due to complications sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on August 8, 1947 in Erie, the son of Gerald and Adeline Geiger Shewan of Erie. He was employed at Erie General Electric Co. His love of boating, which he shared with his family, enabled him to serve as a board member for the Commodore Perry Yacht Club where he brought his handyman talents to many work parties. He recently introduced the sport of jet skiing to his grandkids. His love of fishing left him empty netted many times. In the winter months he enjoyed watching the Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins. He could be found at local ice rinks and attending Erie Otters and Mercyhurst Women's ice hockey games. Dick was a member of St. Paul's R. C. Church. He is survived by his former high school sweetheart, whom he married on June 17, 1967, Patricia Ann Abbott Shewan, his children: Tammie Hartstein of Erie, Michelle Hermsdorf (Jim) of Warrenton, Va., two sisters, Gerry Woomer of Girard, Judy Vogel (Dennis) of Mont., one brother, Tom (Ivette) Shewan of Marysville, Ohio, his grandchildren, Amber and Jeff Hartstein, Paula and Allen Hermsdorf, two sisters-in-law, Dolly Abbott-Traut, and Judy Hauser (John) of Erie, and a brother-in-law, Carl Abbott (Debbie) of Erie. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Louisa Shewan, an aunt, Donna Gingerbach, and uncles: Richard William Shewan I and William Shewan. Swaney, Patricia A.

Patricia A. Swaney, 65, of McMurray, Pa. and formerly of Erie, passed away at the Forestview Health Care Center at Spring Hill on Saturday August 9, 2008. She was born in Erie on November 11, 1942, the daughter of the late Thomas and Virginia Weber Bessetti. She had worked as a waitress at Hoss's and the Khakwa Club and also as a private duty nurse. She had made a Cursillo and enjoyed Bocce, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church. Survivors include; three sons, James K. Swaney and Paul Swaney and his wife Mary, both of Erie and Shawn Swaney and his wife Beth of Pittsburgh, and a daughter, Sherri Bayer and her husband Derek also of Pittsburg. Six Brothers, Gordon, Gregory, Arthur, Richard, Ronny and Gary Bessitti and two sisters, Sandy Lowes and Pearl "Penny" Koshorek, In addition, she is survived by six Grandchildren, Michael, Mikayla, and Max Bayer and Jacob, Benjamin, and Crocifisso J. Swaney. Also, a "grandbaby" Kasey Swaney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Bessetti, a son, Trevor Swaney and a dear friend, Robert A. Davis. Thomas Brooks, Pastor of Our lady of Peace Officiating. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family. Szychowski, Rosalia Majersky "Rose"

Rosalia "Rose" Majersky Szychowski, age 90, formerly of East 36th Street passed away Saturday August 9, 2008 at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center. She was born in Erie January 4, 1918 a daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Karola Majersky. Rose was a reproduction clerk for the City of Erie for 20 years retiring in 1983. She was a member of St. Luke Church and Falconettes Nest 123. She enjoyed bowling and gardening. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thaddeus "Ted" "Specks" Szychowski; and a brother, Michael Majersky. Survivors include two sons, Richard T. Szychowski wife Patty and Michael T. Szychowski, a daughter; Marlene Robertson husband Mark all of Erie; three grandchildren, Beth Pruchnicki husband Randy, Rick Szychowski wife Theresa and Ronald Slupski; four great-grandchildren; a sister Elizabeth "Betty" Lucas of Meadville. Brugger and Sons Funeral Home, 845 East 38th Street at Pine Avenue, on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held there on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Church. Trojanowski, Mary Beth

Mary Beth Trojanowski Booth, age 53, of Millcreek Twp., died Friday, August 8, 2008, surrounded by her loving family and friends at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Corry on June 4, 1955, the daughter of the late, Robert and Pat F. Bernardowicz Trojanowski. She attended Mercyhurst Prep and Clarion University. Mary Beth was employed at the VA Medical Center (LAHEC) and most recently at Glenbeigh. She was a member of St. Andrews R.C. Church. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and attending her son's sporting events. She is survived by her husband, Charles G. Booth, one step-daughter, Meghan Barber (Anthony) of Erie, one son, Travis Booth of Millcreek, one brother, John Trojanowski (Colette), of Erie, two nephews, Tyler and Andrew Trojanowski. One sister, Judy Trojanowski, preceded Mary Beth in death. Weiser Sr., James J.

James J. Weiser, Sr., age 72, of Erie, died Friday, August 8, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Erie on January 30, 1936 a son of the late Henry and Irene Spencer Weiser. He graduated from St. John's grade school and Tech Memorial High School. He was a pattern maker and a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Weiser. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jeanne Nies Weiser, four daughters, Mary Kathleen Weiser of Tiverton, R.I., Karen Burns and her husband Mike, Jeanne Bartos and her husband John and Lori Morgenstern and her husband Robert all of Erie, one son, Navy Cdr. James Weiser, Jr and his wife Connie of Woodbridge, Va. Eleven grandchildren, Adam and Samuel Burns, Jed Bartos, Kaley, Dale, Robert and Maggie Morgenstern, James III, Michael, Kathleen and Mary Kate Weiser. Four Sisters, Marie Therese Latham and her husband Mahlon of Va., Virginia Lukawski of Erie, Cecile Hortsman and her husband Fritz of Erie and Nancy Weiser of Ohio. One brother, Richard Weiser and his wife Mary of Erie, many nieces and nephews and his dog Oscar also survive. Friends may call at the Francis V.
