Randolph Charles Bastian
Randolph C. Bastian of 23533 Glenwood Street, Union City (Canadohta Lake), age 76, died Friday, September 3 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born on March 3, 1928 in Freedom, PA, the son of the late Albert J. Bastian and Clara Marie Wolf Bastian. He was a Ford mechanic for most of his employment years. He was a member of the VFW Millvale, PA, Union City Moose Lodge #882, and was active at the Union City Senior Center. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church at Canadohta Lake. He had served with the US Navy from 1944-1947 as a Seaman First Class. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, delivered meals on wheels, worked on cars and was a boating enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Margaret Bastian in 1986, one son-Randolph C. Bastian, three brothers, five sisters and a step-granddaughter, Shelley Luba. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Baranyai Bastian of Canadohta Lake, 1 daughter-Rose Marie Donough and her husband, Bob of Fombel, PA and one son, Michael Bastian of Evans City, PA, 2 stepsons-Frank Baranyai and his wife, Judi of Cochranton and Louis Baranyai of Canadohta Lake, 2 step-daughters-Kathy DeRemer and her husband, Scott of Conneautville and Ellie Luba and her companion, Jim Donnell of Meadville, 3 sisters- Hazel Skornickel of Greenfield, Ruth Bullman of Mercer, and Sarah Salvator of North Side, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grand children and 7 step-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends may call a the Thomas E. Morgan Funeral Home, 75 N. Main St., Union City, PA on Tuesday, September 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 and may attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at Canadohta Lake on Wednesday at 10:00 AM with Rev. Thomas Suppa officiating. Interment will be at Pinewood Memorial Park in Evans City, PA. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Crawford County or Our Lady of Fatima Chapel.

Sarah Jane Duffin Bowman
Sarah Jane Duffin Bowman, 90, a resident of the Regency Suites, died Friday, September 3, 2004 at Hamot Medical Center. She was born July 27, 1914 in Punxsutawney, PA, daughter of the late Austin Kirkpatrick and Florence Hartman McGaughey. She was a 1933 graduate of Strong Vincent High School. She formerly worked as a sales associate at the Boston Store, administrative assistant of the Glen Ellyn, IL YMCA, a sales assistant at the Edinboro State College Bookstore and retired in 1975 from the Erie County Motor Club as the head of the license and title department. She was a member of the First Christian church were she had served as deacon and assistant financial secretary. She was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her first husband, A. Edward Duffin, Sr., in 1983, whom she married in December, 1941 and her second husband, John Arthur Bowman, in 2001, whom she married in June, 1990. Also preceding her in death were two sisters; Florence Crum, Helen Rose and a brother James McGaughey. She is survived by a son; A. Edward Duffin, Jr. and his wife Linda of Erie; a daughter Linda Lee Henry and her husband David of Candor, NY; a sister Marion Siira of Erie; three grandchildren: Michelle Cowles and her husband Eric of Candor, NY, Sean Henry and his wife AnnMarie of Bainbridge, NY and Scott Duffin of Dulles, VA; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3816 West Lake Road and are invited to attend services there Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Betty A. Haenel
Betty A. Haenel, 79, formerly of 57 W. Smith, St. Corry, died on Friday, September 3, 2004 at the Corry Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Bracken Funeral Home, Inc., 315 N. Center St., Corry, PA.

Dale E. Hanson, Sr.
Dale E. Hanson, Sr., age 68, of 3 Rich Drive Bradford, PA passed away Friday, September 3rd, 2004 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Erie County, Pa. Mr. Hanson, Sr. was born in Bradford, PA on February 24, 1936, he was the son of the late Harry B. and Margaret (Wilson) Hanson. He was the husband of Erma L. (Mangel) Hanson. They were married at the First Baptist Church in Bradford, PA. Mr. Hanson was a graduate of Bradford High School Class of 1956 and attended Triangle Tech for a Drafting Degree. He was a member of the National Guard for a number of years in the 1950’s. He was a former member and past president of the Hilltop Lions Club and a present member of the Bradford Lions Club and Zone Chairman. He worked for Airco Speers for 15 years and then for Urick Foundry in Erie he retired and returned to live in Gifford. Most recently he worked at Zippo Mfg. as a security guard. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving besides his wife are: Daughter(s): D. Musolino of Bradford, Debby Hanson of Conneautville, PA, Betty Hanson of Bradford; Son(s): Dale E. “Eddie” Hanson II of Erie, PA; Sister(s): Nancy Tanesky of Rew; Brother(s) Ernest “Jim” Hanson of Bradford, Gary Hanson of Atlanta, GA, Jay Hanson of Cheektowaga, NY. Mr. Hanson is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Family will be receiving friends on Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. South Ave. At which time Funeral and committal services will be held at Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc., South Ave., Bradford, PA at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 6th, with Rev. Margaret “Peg” Harbaugh
Margaret “Peg” Carns Harbaugh, 88, of 5181 Westgate Dr., Girard, died September 2, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Johnstown, PA, on November 26, 1915, the daughter of the late John and Mary Miller Carns. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Maurice R. Harbaugh and a son, John Harbaugh. She is survived by five sons, Rev. Gary Harbaugh and Marlene of Erie, Richard Harbaugh and his wife JoAnn of Erie, Barry Harbaugh and his wife Mary of Lake City, Gerald Harbaugh and his wife Diane of Girard, and Jeffery Harbaugh of Girard; a daughter, Joan Sargent and her husband Daniel of Girard; a daughter-in-law, Christina Harbaugh of Taiwan; 22 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. She loved her family and Chinese art and culture. She enjoyed reading and was a student of world events. Dorothy Saltsman Hess
Dorothy Saltsman Hess, 83, a resident of Erie since 1963, died on Friday evening at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Renovo, PA on July 29, 1921 a daughter of the late Frank and Olga Carlson Saltsman. She had worked as a registered nurse at the Hamot Hospital for over 19 years and retired in 1983. She then worked as a registered nurse for 13 years for Dr. Chung. She was a 1942 graduate of the Bloomsburg Hospital School of Nursing. She had worked as a missionary nurse in the 1940’s in Peru. She was a member of the Garden Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include a brother James Saltsman and his wife Joan of Bradenton, FL; a sister, Betty Goen and her husband Cecil of South Bend, IN; 2 nieces, Sharon Fineman and Shelly Vannett; 3 nephews, Timothy Saltsman, Steve and David Goen, Sr.; 3 grand nieces, Beth, Renee, and Roseta; 3 grand nephews, Chris, Eric, and David Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Hess in 1995. Bernice Spilka Kirkpatrick
Bernice Spilka Kirkpatrick, age 73, died Thursday at the Presbyterian Lodge. She resided in Lawrence Park. She was born in Erie February 28, 1931, daughter of the late Feodor & Doria Spilko Spilka. She is survived by a daughter Janet Schroeder of Erie, a son Dennis Kirkpatrick of Erie, a brother Peter Spilka of Warren, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Kirkpatrick and a brother George W. Spilka. Friends may call at the G. R. Berniece K. Rapp
Berniece K. Rapp, age 79, of Erie, died Saturday, September 4, 2004 at St. Vincent Health Center. She was born in Fryburg, PA on December 7, 1924, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel Hale McCauley. She was an Erie resident for 50 years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. James R.C. Church. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joseph D. Rapp; 2 children, Joseph Rapp, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL and Betty Button of Erie, 1 brother, Henry McCauley and wife Frances of Oil City, PA; 3 grandchildren; Chandra Light and husband Marty and Dana McIntire and husband Michael, all of Erie, and Damien Rapp and wife Kim, of Shaw Air Force Base, SC; and 3 great-grandchildren, Austin Willey, Mackenzie Light and Broderick McIntire. Preceded in death by 1 brother, Joseph McCauley. Leatrice Joy E. Robison
Leatrice Joy E. Robison, age 64, of Erie, died Friday September 3, 2004 at her residence, following a brief illness. She was born in Erie on August 5, 1940, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Virginia Edwards Hicks. She was a homemaker, enjoyed flower gardening, bingo and was a volunteer with Helping Hands C.B. Club. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Thomas A. Robison Sr.; 3 children, Thomas A. Robison Jr. and Timothy J. Robison Sr., all of Erie; and Tammie Hildreth and husband Kevin Sr. of Oakdale, CT; 1 sister, Grace Sproull and husband Dan of Vandergrift, PA; and 4 grandchildren, TJ and Geoffery Robison and Michael and Kevin Hildreth Jr. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by 1 sister, Velda Cheney. Sara “Sally” L. Scott
Sara “Sally” L. Scott, age 65, of Andover, OH, died Saturday, September 4, 2004 at her residence following a short illness. She was born in Johnstown, PA on February 13, 1939. She was formerly of Erie, PA, wintering in Davenport, FL for the past 8 winters. She was a member of Wesleyville Baptist Church. She was a counselor with Rape Crisis Center. She previously was a nurse at the VA Medical Center and St. Vincent Health Center. She enjoyed reading, camping and golfing. Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Dennis Scott; her mother Betty L. Davis of Xenia, OH; 4 children Dennis G. Scott of Lawrence Park; Cynthia J. Scott and Robert A. Scott and wife Shawne, all of Millcreek; and Melissa A. Minier and husband James of Wesleyville; 2 sisters, Barbara Innes and husband Terry of Xenia, OH; Judy Knoblock and husband Al of Mesa, AZ; and 3 brothers, James Davis and wife, Judy of Elyria, OH; Thomas “ Bucky” Davis and wife Sandi of Novi, MI; and Samuel Davis and wife Susan of Johnstown, PA. May Anna Smith, 81, of Berwick, Pa. formerly of Waterford, died Sept. 2, at the home of her son. Wife of the late George H. Smith, Jr. and survived by daughter, Roberta Danylko, Waterford. Glenn R. Teed
Glenn R. Teed, 88, 8359 Wattsburg Rd., died on Saturday morning at his residence following a brief illness. A resident of the Erie area all of his life, he was born in Wattsburg on May 27, 1916 a son of the late Robert and Mary Whitford Teed. He had worked in the Locomotive Shipping Department at G.E. Building 17 for over 31 years and retired in 1978. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church were he had been a long time usher, a life member of the St. Boniface Usher’s Club where he was a president for many years, a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 133 at St. Boniface, a life member of the Siebenbuerger Club, a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, and an avid baseball fan. Survivors include his wife of 64 years Jean Pawlowski Teed; 2 sons, Nelson Teed and his wife Rebecca of Wytheville, VA and Thomas Teed and his wife Pamela of Greene Twp; 2 daughters, Margaret McCartney and her husband Wayne of Waterford and Julia Zimmer of Greene Twp.; a brother Merle Teed of Wattsburg; 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by a son Robert Teed in 1999, a son in law David Zimmer in 2002, and a brother in infancy Albert Teed. Friends may call at the Russell C. Joan “Pat” Wolf
Joan “Pat” Wolf, age 72, of Erie, died Friday, September 3, 2004 at her residence. She was born in Erie on February 24, 1932, the daughter of the late William and Joan Nahlen Brown. She was a lifelong Erie area resident. She was affiliated with Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church. She was employed with General Electric Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1982. She was personnel program specialist while at GE. She was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, GE Retired Employees Association, and Lakeshore Fire Dept. Auxiliary. She is the widow of Donald N. Wolf. She is survived by a brother-in-law, Hank Bodamer of Erie, and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Breen of Farmingdale, NY. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and close friends also survive. Preceded in death by 1 sister, Doris Bodamer.
