Charles R. Bartlett Sr.
Charles R. Bartlett, Sr. Retired from the Norfolk & Southern
Railroad Charles R. Bartlett, Sr.; age 72 of East Springfield,
PA died early Wednesday morning, September 1, 2004 at his
home. He was born in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of the late
Arthur Clyde and Jessie Mae (Eddy) Bartlett on April 9,1932.
Charles retired after 32 years of service from the Norfolk & Southern
Railroad, but didn’t like being retired so he went
to work for Dalin Molding & Machine in Austinburg, Ohio.
He had attended the Federated Church with his family and
was a member of the Moose Club #381 in Albion,PA. When he
wasn’t working , he enjoyed being with his family and
working in puzzle books. Charles was preceded in death by
a son: Kevin Bartlett and six brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy I. (Snyder) Bartlett.
They were married August 30,1951. They had just celebrated
their 53rd wedding anniversary. He is survived by four children:
Charles R. Bartlett, Jr of East Springfield, PA, Richard
A. Bartlett and his wife Ellinor of Tampa, FL; Kathleen Sue
Summerville and her husband, Gary of Riverview, FL; and Karen
McCabe and her husband, Brent of Bloomington, Indiana. Charles
is also survived by five sisters: Bernice McGrath of Linesville,
PA,; Betty Dickson and her husband,Duane of Conneaut, OH;
Jean Bean of Clearwater, FL; Wilma Roberts and her husband,
Walter of Lakeland, FL; and Mary Ann Sikora and her husband,
Leonard of Conneaut, OH. He is also survived by one brother:
Hubert Bartlett and his wife , Faye of Florida. He is also
survived by nine grandchildren: Sara Long, Kelly and Brett
Bartlett, Tim and Chris Hanzelka, Cory Summerville, Kyle,
Ryan, and Eryn McCabe. There are also six great grandchildren
surviving: Haylee McMahon, Justin, Nathan, Madison, Erika,
and Ava Hanzelka and many nieces and nephews. Friends may
call at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home, 11883 Main
Street, East Springfield on Friday, September 3, 2004 from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend Life Celebration
Services there on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Adrianne
Rush of the St. James A.M.E. Church, Officiating. Burial
will follow in Springfield Cemetery, East Springfield. Memorials

Margaret J. “Peggy” Grunden Beemus
Margaret J. “Peggy” Grunden Beemus, age 79, of
Millcreek, formerly of South Manor Dr. and Angelique Woods,
died Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Hamot Medical Center.
She was born in Oil City on July 22, 1925, the daughter of
the late William and Mary Grunden. She was employed at Hamot
Medical Center and enjoyed reading, puzzles and knitting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Beemus
and one sister, Lillian M. Grunden. One brother, Kenneth
Grunden, of Franklin, and several nieces and nephews survive
her. A graveside service will be held today at Laurel Hill
Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Richard Schultz.

Allen D. Farmer
Allen D. Farmer, 79, of Conneaut, OH, died Tuesday, August
31, at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. He
was born November 3, 1924, in Nicholson, GA, a son of W.E.
and Oza Mae (Crawford) Farmer. Mr. Farmer was a veteran
of the U.S. Navy, and moved to Conneaut in 1953 from Commerce,
GA. He retired in 1986 after 21 years of service with The
Pittsburgh & Conneaut Dock Company. He was a member
of First Baptist Church, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed
fishing and talking with the neighborhood kids. Survivors
include a daughter Wanda (John) Jones of San Diego, CA;
a son Tony D. (Marta) Farmer of Conneaut, OH; a number
of brothers and sisters; four grandchildren, Shannan Farmer,
Gretchen Vona, Michael Gojich, and Lucyann Gojich; and
a great granddaughter Olivia Gianna Vona. He was preceded
in death by his parents, his wife Lucille Farmer, and a
daughter Brenda Kercher. Private services will be held
at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty
St., Conneaut, OH with Rev. Chuck Graham, pastor of First
United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will be
in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH. The
family requests no flowers; however memorial contributions
may be made to the Conneaut Rescue Squad. Envelopes are
available at the funeral home.
Earl V. “Stub” Francis, Jr.
Earl V. “Stub” Francis, Jr., 70, of Summit Township,
died Tuesday, August 31, 2004, following a brief illness.
He was born July 7, 1934, in Erie, son of the late Earl M.
and Mary E. Hodapp Francis, Sr. He lived in the Erie area
all of his life. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club
and the Union City Moose Club. He was a co-owner and operated
the Francis Slaughter House on Kuhl Road in 1963, owned and
operated the Phillipsville Tavern in 1965 and in the late
1960’s he leased trucks and equipment to Hammermill
Paper Company until 1980. He owned several farms in Erie
County, selling horses most of his life and also raised white
tail deer, exotic birds and peacocks with a permit from the
State of PA. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sandra
Ann Michel Francis; one daughter, Kimberly M. Francis of
Summit Township; one granddaughter, Shawna M. Hartman; two
brothers, Robert Francis and his wife, Dora, of Millcreek
Twp. and Thomas Francis and his wife, Patty, of Greene Twp.
No calling hours will be held. Private services will be held
at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place
at Waterford Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by
Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road, an Independent
Care Group affiliate. Because of his great love of animals,

Christopher R. “Goober” Gunn
Christopher R. “Goober” Gunn, 32, of Erie, died
Thursday, September 2, 2004 at Hamot Medical Center. He was
born in Erie on September 5, 1971, the son of Christine and
George Gunn. He was shift manager of W. 26th St. Arby’s.
He enjoyed playing sports with his nephew, Kyle Mathes, and
working on cars. In addition to his parents, he is survived
by three sisters, his twin Kristie Gunn, Diane Schaaf and
Lyndy Gunn; three brothers, Brian Schaaf and wife, Stephanie,
Keith Gunn and wife, Pam, and Danny Gunn all of Erie and
his grandmother, Lucy Walburn of Erie. Many aunts, uncles,
cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call
at Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., West, 536 W. 10th St., on
Saturday from 2 to 5 and 7 until the funeral service at 8:30.

Raymond N. Keiser
Raymond N. Keiser, 65, of Erie, died Wednesday, September
1, 2004 at Hamot Medical Center. Born in Conneautville,
PA on April 27, 1939, he was the son of Norbert C. and
Madeline (Pash) Keiser of Conneautville who survive. He
graduated from Conneaut Valley High, attended University
of Pittsburgh, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired
in 1998 as supervisor of the computer room at Zurn Industries,
where he had worked for twenty seven years. Mr. Keiser
was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and the Zukor
Club. He loved hunting, fly fishing and camping, and enjoyed
reading. Surviving are his parents, his wife of 31 years,
Elizabeth L. (Kubiak) Keiser, two sons, Michael R. Keiser,
Pittsburgh, and Daniel J. Perfetti, Harborcreek; a daughter,
Debbie L. Sabatine, husband Alex, Erie; two grandsons,
Tony and David Sabatine; and aunts and uncles. Calling
at the BRUGGER HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1595 West 38th Street
at Greengarden Blvd, Friday 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services
there Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial
at Blessed Sacrament Church at 9 o’clock. Burial

Edward H. McGrath
Edward H. McGrath, age 87, died Wed., Sept. 1, 2004 at Twinbrook
Medical Center. Formerly of Parkside in North East. Born
May 4, 1917 in Corry to the late James Edward and Gertrude
I. Nelson McGrath. A resident of North East since 1947.
Member of St. Gregory Church. A well known weaver in the
Erie area. Formerly employed at G.E. for 42 years as an
engineer retired 1979. Preceded in death by his wife Pauline “Gerry” Bauer
McGrath, son Michael A. McGrath, grandson Timothy McGrath
and a brother James R. McGrath. Survived by 2 sons Robert
McGrath and his wife Vera of North East, James O’Neal
and his wife Mary of Erie. 3 daughters Nancy Jane Phanco
and her husband Norman of North East, Susan O’Neal
of Erie and Janice Morris and her husband Brent of Westfield.
2 brothers Gerald L. McGrath and his wife Mary of Riverside,
CA and Thomas J. McGrath and his wife Betty of Bellview,
FL. Also 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3
foster children. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin
Funeral Home, 65 South Lake St., North East, on Fri. 2-4
and 7-9 and are invited to attend prayer services on Sat.
at 10 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30
at St. Gregory Church (S. Pearl St.). Interment St. Gregory

Helen M. Miller
Helen M. Miller , age 89, Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at
her residence, Barnabas Court. Harborcreek. Formerly of
W. Law Road, North East. Helen was born on April 21, 1915
in Attica, NY a daughter of the late John T. and Katherine
E. Heemer Newhouse. She was a member of First Baptist Church
in North East, where she belonged to the Rose Point for
many years and was a former member of Eva Rebecca Lodge
in North East. She was a 1933 graduate of North East High
School where she was ranked fourth in her class. She enjoyed
flower gardening and being with her grandchildren. Preceded
in death by her husband of 63 years, Ralph W. Miller who
died on January 2, 2000, her twin sister Hazel Graham and
a sister Dorothy Green. Helen is survived by two sons,
Andrew Miller and his wife Elsie and Roger Miller, all
of North East, one daughter, Pamela Galeski and her husband
Edward of North East and one sister Lois Cochran of Wesleyville.
Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren
and 2 great, great grandchildren. Friends will be received
at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, Independent Care Group
Affiliate, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Friday from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and are invited to attend funeral
services there on Saturday at 11 a.m. Rev. David Waldo
will officiate. Interment will be in North East Cemetery.

Thomas Michael Speicher
Thomas Michael Speicher, age 56, residence North East, died
on Wednesday September 1, 2004 at Hamot Medical Center.
He was born on March 30, 1948 in Erie to the late William
and Virginia Ann Homsher Speicher. He was a lifetime resident
of North East. He was a graduate of North East High School.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United
States Navy. He owned and operated Columbus Industries
in Columbus Pennsylvania and also was a sales manager for
GR Import in North East. He was a member of the Freeport
Yacht Club and enjoyed boating, fishing and was a Cleveland
Brown’s fan. Besides his parents he was preceded
in death by; a brother William R. Speicher He is survived
by a brother Richard H. Speicher and wife Mary of Erie.
A niece Lisa Marie Hayes of Erie. 2 nephews Kyle Speicher
of North East and Derek Speicher of Fort Drum, NY. Friends
may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home 65 South
Lake Street North East on Saturday 2-4 and 7 until time
of memorial service at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials
