Charles J. Bialomizy
Charles J. Bialomizy, 91, of Erie, died Tuesday, Aug. 31,
2004, at Saint Vincent Health Center.
He was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Grand Rapids, Mich., son of
the late Alexander and Rose Wierzbicki Bialomizy.
He retired from General Electric Co.
He was a life member of the East Erie Turners. He also was
a member of the GE Quarter Century Club. He also was a member
of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
He enjoyed carpentry.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Miller; four brothers,
Joseph, Frank and Edward Bialomizy and Walter Youngs; and
a grandson, Robert Kapsar Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Clara Kowalski Bialomizy;
two daughters, Rosemarie Kapsar and her husband, Robert,
of Erie and Cathy Kranz of Bainbridge, Ohio; a brother, Stanley
Bialomizy and his wife, Betty, of Erie; seven grandchildren;
and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at
Carl A. Slomski & Son Funeral Home, 2101 Ash St. A service
will be held there Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass
of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Entombment will be at Calvary Mausoleum.

Yukiko M. Komotsu Kane
Yukiko M. Kane, 56, of Cary, N.C., died Friday, Aug. 27,
2004, after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 12, 1948, in Komatsu, Japan, daughter
of Tomoyoshi and Kimiko Komotsu.
She worked for IBM's research division in Cary.
She was a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania
Survivors include her husband, John R. Kane, of Cary and
formerly of Erie; a son, John Kane of Cary; and a daughter,
Elizabeth Kane, of Cary.

Margaret Campbell Minnich
Margaret Minnich, 78, of Abington Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Louisville, Ky., daughter
of the late James and Mina Stowe Campbell.
She was a manager of Sims Apartments for many years. She
formerly resided at St. James Manor.
She was a member of First Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Minnich,
and a sister, Theona "Irene" Sterling.
Survivors include a son, James Lee Campbell of Erie; a brother,
James "Leo" Campbell of Union City; a half-brother,
Henry Watkins of Daytona, Fla.; and three grandchildren,
Jamie Lee Campbell, Jason Reider and Ryan Reed Campbell.
There will be no calling hours.
Friends may attend a memorial service at First Assembly of
God, 8150 Oliver Road, at a day and time to be announced.

Charles August Sauer
Charles August Sauer, 82, of Millcreek Township, died Monday,
Aug. 30, 2004, at his home.
He was born July 27, 1922, in Pittsburgh, son of the late
August and Josephine Buerkle Groetsch Sauer.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a
graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering.
He retired from AMSCO Systems Co., a division of American
Sterilizer Co., where he worked as director of project management
and engineering.
He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kay Davin Sauer;
a son, Charles A. Sauer Jr.; a daughter, Beth Molitoriss;
and three sisters, Helen Groetsch Meisinger, Rose Bernadette
Groetsch, and Mary Groetsch Davis.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Sauer and his wife,
Jo Ellen, of Fairview Township, Mark Sauer and his wife,
Mary, of Palo Alto, Calif., James Sauer, and Paul Sauer and
his wife, Kim, all of Erie; three daughters, Barbara Goyzueta
and her husband, Roberto, of Norman, Okla., Mary Nientimp
and her husband, Ed, of Erie, and Kathy Bronakoski and her
husband, Tom, of Tallahassee, Fla.; and one sister, Jeanne
Sauer McCollaum of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 30 grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Burton West
Lake Funeral Home, 3816 West Lake Road. A service will be
held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Jude Church, 2801 W. Sixth
St.
Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Edith M. Hopkins Schauer
Edith M. Schauer, 89, a resident of Sarah A. Reed Retirement
Center, died there Monday, Aug. 30, 2004.
She was born Sept. 16, 1914, in Johnsonburg, daughter of
the late Oscar and Lottie Bliss Hopkins. She had lived most
of her life in Erie and was a former resident of 1752 E.
43rd St.
She was a homemaker and formerly worked as head cook for
several families, including those of Skinner Engine Co. owner
Herman Mueller and industrialist F.F. Curtze. She also worked
in the interior decorating industry and retired as a home
interior designer for W.T. Grant Co. after 20 years.
She appeared on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post on
Nov. 17, 1934, as one of the "Campbell Kids" as
drawn by Eugene Iverd.
As a 1932 graduate of Academy High School, she attended elderhostel
programs at Edinboro University and Frostburg (Md.) State
University.
As a member of Lawrence Park Christian & Missionary Alliance
Church, she taught Sunday school for many years. She was
also a member of the Wesley Keenagers.
She enjoyed art, music, watching birds and collecting antiques.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Schauer,
whom she married April 16, 1938, and who died in 1987; and
four brothers, Orville, Ellsworth, Neale and Marlin Hopkins.
Survivors include two sons, George H. Schauer and his wife,
Sara, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Joseph H. Schauer and his
wife, Nellie Mae, of Clayton, N.Y.; two sisters, Shirley
Guelcher of Erie and Ruth Collett of Cypress, Calif.; three
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dusckas Funeral
Home East, 2607 Buffalo Road. A service will be held there
Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Blanche R. White Simshauser
Blanche R. Simshauser, 95, of Village at Luther Square, died
Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Millcreek Community Hospital.
She was born May 30, 1909, in Fairfield, Neb., daughter of
the late Henry and Mattie White.
She lived in Erie for four years. She also had lived in Ellijay,
Ga.
She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed bowling and bowled until she was 85.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Herman
Simshauser, and a son, Gerald Simshauser.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Miller and her
husband, Thomas, of Anchor Point, Alaska, Rose Longo and
her husband, Frank, of Erie, and Kathryn Oplinger and her
husband, Douglas, of Ellijay; a son, Walter Simshauser and
his wife, Barbara, of Largo, Fla.; a sister, Ella Goosic,
of Hastings, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren;
and many nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Spartanburg, S.C.
Dusckas Funeral Home East, 2607 Buffalo Road, is handling
arrangements.
Walter Swiderski
Walter Swiderski, 85, of Boca Raton, Fla., died Thursday,
July 22, 2004.
He was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Erie, son of the late Michael
and Regina Swiderski.
He was employed as a driver for Janitor Supply Co. in Erie.
He also worked as a draftsman, carpenter and cabinet maker.
He attended East High School.
Serving with the Merchant Marine, he was assigned throughout
the Great Lakes.
He volunteered with the Peace Corps in Grenada, where he
taught students how to make things out of wood. A fan of
jazz, he enjoyed collecting record albums and periodicals.
Survivors include a niece, Deirdra Baldwin Lapin; and a nephew,
David Luke Baldwin.
Friends may attend a graveside service on Sept. 17 at 2 p.m.
at Calvary Cemetery, 3325 West Lake Road.
Arrangements are being handled by Cremation Services of the
Palm Beaches, 115 W. Woolbright Road, Suite D, Boynton Beach.
Evan A. Young
Evan A. "Dreb" Young, 87, of Drums, died Monday,
Aug. 30, 2004, at Hazleton General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Drums, son of the late Martin
and Kathryn Rodgers Young.
He graduated from Freeland High School.
Serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he was assigned
to the 82nd Airborne in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of Conyngham United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Young;
his second wife, Frances Weaver Young; a daughter, Priscilla
Young Samec; and a brother, Duane O. Young.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula Vilushis and her husband,
George, of Erie; a son, Bradley E. Young and his wife, Wendy,
of Drums; a son-in-law, Michael Samec of Tresckow; two sisters,
Vivian Luchi of Conyngham and Phyllis Culp and her husband,
Ronald, of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Krapf
and Hughes Funeral Home, 530 W. Butler Drive, Drums. A service
will be held there Thursday at 10 a.m.
Burial will be private at Drums Methodist Cemetery.
Local arrangements are being handled by Brugger Home for
Funerals, 1595 W. 38th St.

Helen Rizzo Young
Helena Young, 71, of Morristown, N.J., died Monday, Aug.
30, 2004, at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 8, 1933, in North East, daughter of the
late Anthony and Concetta Rizzo. She had lived in Morristown
for 32 years.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church
in Morristown.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, F. Richard Young;
four sons, Richard Anthony, Matthew Charles, James Joseph
and John Andrew Young; a brother, John J. Rizzo; and 11 grandchildren.
Friends may attend a service Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Dangler
Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains. Mass will
follow at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church,
6 Sussex Ave., Morristown.
Entombment will be at Holy Rood Cemetery Mausoleum, Morris
